Back to front, Cesar Mendez, Moises Rodrigo Arizmendi, Josh Curtis, Francisco Sotelo, and Miguel Arizmendi, hang tobacco used for wrappers at a barn on Republican Pike between Buzzard Road and Winterwood Lane . Josh Curtis, 28, leads the operation, but got his start working with his father, Mike Curtis, 55. This year is Mike Curtis’ 40th crop. When he was 15, his uncle and grandfather let him grow his own acre of tobacco. Josh is the reason Mike has stayed farming. The last growing season did not yield good results, but Josh is determined to make things work. “Without these guys I would’ve done quit,” Mike said, referring to Josh’s team.
