Lyla Grace Hag, 16, chases goats into their quarters after a game of wiffle ball at 171 Duncan Road. The goats dined on greenery near the edge of the field and were corralled once dusk fell. 

People participate in the greased pig contest at the Harrison County Fair at 2849 US HWY 27 S. The event featured several heats by age with the youngest group being 5 to 6 years old and the oldest was 18 and above women. Pigs ranged in size and slipperiness as the participants’ age went up.

Steve Moro, 52, poses with a stag project he's finishing for a client out of his studio in Snohomish. Moro has over 30 years experience in taxidermy and works on animals such as bears, bobcats and ducks.

Jeremy Wigglesworth, 40, center, participates in the first ever Harrison County Fair donkey race at 2849 US HWY 27 S. People sixteen and older had the opportunity to try and get their donkey around the ring from the start to the finish line. Participants must have all hands and feet off the ground to win. Donkeys bucked, kicked, and refused to move during the five heats. A twenty minute intermission was given to rest and water the donkeys, After, the worst riders, second place riders, and first place riders competed in three more heats.

Jake Iverson, 23, rides during the ranch saddle bronc event during the Timberbowl Rodeo in Darrington, Washingon. The horse broke its leg and was evacuated from the ring for the vet.

Scott Luckie, 37 and Tara Luckie’s, 38, Highland cattle munch on table scraps at Luckie Farms in Lake Stevens, Washington. They keep many of the Highland cattle as pets, but also raise some of them for others as meat. 

 Chris Palmer, 48, inspects bee hives at Ashford Acres Inn at 1807 KY-36. The Palmer brothers are Harrison County natives and have jobs outside of beekeeping. Jason works at the Harrison Memorial Hospital as a Network Analyst and Chris works as a bus driver for Harrison County Schools. The pair stay busy between cultivating honey and working to educate children and those interested in beekeeping.

Winning turtes sit in a crate and wait for the final race during the Brooks’ “Land Tarpin Race” at Cedar Ridge Health Campus, a senior living facility, at 1217 US-62. Racers were given a number that corresponded with a turtle and watched as the top three from the two heats moved to a third and final heat. This race followed the Brooks’ 13th Annual Land Tarpin Race at Flat Run Veterans Park.

A group of pigs come toward Operational Supervisor Chris Rozeboom so he can pet them at the Swine Teaching and Research Center.

Holy Laytart, 38, left, and Al Solomon, 83, right, work together to process rabbits for consumption at their farm at 1336 Ammerman Pike Road. The process involves breaking the rabbit’s neck with a “hopper popper”, draining the blood, and then removing the pelt, paws, and intestines. S & L Farm is split into two areas. This site was the original farm bought in the late nineties, but is now used just for animals as Al and Holly expanded and moved over to Holly’s farm at 437 Ammerman Pike.

Jamie Rowe, 54, checks in on her fawns at Grit and Grace Farm & Wildlife Rehabilitation at 2383 Hicks Pike. Jamie Rowe and Terry Rowe work together to help animals that have been injured and aren’t able to survive in the wild on their own. 

Luke Bays, 14, dry off sheep to prepare to go home during the Harrison County Fair at 2849 US HWY 27 S. Luke who is in his fifth year of showing, follows in the tradition of his mother who showed animals, but prefers cattle because “they are more fun”. The third night of the fair was the first night for carnival rides and included events such as the Lawn Tractor Pull and HC Baby Contest.
